A recent Microsoft announcement shows the software giant's plans to include the growing populat XML file format within its new Office pack, to be named "Office 12".
This move will significantly increase data interoperability to Microsoft's customers and will open new market opportunities to technology providers within the IT industry.
The new file format, XML (standing for Extensible Markup Language), will become the default file format for the "Office 12" components such as Workd, Excel and PowerPoint - with an estimated release date around July 2006 the earliest.
Among many advantages brought by the announced adoption of the XML format, we have to mention smoother data interoperability, improved security and error recovery, reduction of file sizes, open file format, improved control of file content.
The XML format knows a rapid ascension among both IT professionals and neophites, with Microsoft estimating at least one-third of 1 million developers using Office 2003 employ XML within their solutions.
