A coleague of mine has experienced a strange behavior on her client's PC with Windows XP SP2:
- When running any .net application, the language toolbar on the Windows taskbar was just a black square;
- On another application the search form icons were just black squares;
- When the search was completed, and result were displayed on the grid, the mouse cursor was just a
black square;
- Message boxes were empty.
After plenty of searches, she found the problem was the Service: Network Associates McShield ("C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\Mcshield.exe") - this is the McAfee On-Access Antivirus Scanner.
When this service is running .net applications, problems like that ones mentioned above are experienced. When
this service is off, the .net applications run without any problem.
- Have anyone else had similar problems?
- Is there any Conflict with the antivirus?
- What can be blocked from antivirus so the fonts are not displayed on message boxes and icons are not displayed?
From a quick search I did on the net, I found that Patch 11 will most likely solve the problem, but I am curious to hear of other solutions / fixes.
If anyone has experienced similar problems and has a more elegant solution to it, please do not hesitate to contact me through the contact form, or write a small article with solution and we'll publish it right here on VBprofs.com
